A couple springs ago, I decided to plant a garden. I bought seed packets and sprouted the seeds inside. One warm day, I left the seedlings outside to get some sun. When I came home, they were gone.
The culprit:
How could I be mad at something so cute?
This year I decided I would try a safe method — container gardening. To start out, I planted dill, Italian parsley and basil. I love having fresh herbs around!
I also planted an avocado seed, to try to spout a tree. I placed the seed in the pot, pointy side up, half covered with soil.
I put all of the pots on top of the table on our patio. When I came home today, I found the pot with the avocado seed in it tipped over; and the pit had vanished. I guess Lilah’s going to be growing an avocado tree inside her stomach!
Next time I have an avocado, I plan to try again. In the meantime, here’s a recipe you might enjoy. It’s an avocado smoothie I learned how to make in Brazil. I love eating these in Brazil. We pick our own avocados from the tree outside Josue’s house and they huge and perfectly ripe!
Vitamina de Abacate
- Avocado
- Milk
- Sugar
Chop the avocado into chunks. Place them into the blender. Blend the avocado with enough milk to make a thick, but pourable, smoothie. Add sugar to taste.
If anyone has any container gardening tips, please let me know. This is my first attempt.
