You might have noticed that I’ve been gone for about a week. I’ve been taking a photography class that is very demanding. To catch you up, here are some pre photography class pictures of what we saw and ate last weekend while visiting Meers, Oklahoma.
The Wichita Mountains.
A skinny cow… This is what I think of when I eat ice cream bars now. I felt bad for him.
Meers restaurant. A shack on the outside…
Not much better on the inside. We’ll call it ambiance.
But it does have good food! Food Network rated its burger as the third best in the nation. All of the beef is from their own herd of Texas Longhorns. It’s 97/3 and there’s nothing added (not even salt!), which gives the burger a very clean flavor. All burgers come cowboy style – with mustard. You have to add your own ketchup.
Meers is famous for its large sizes…
Chicken fried steak for a giant.
The seismic burger (1 pound of meat!).
And somehow try to save room for the homemade peach or cherry cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream.
Even the drinks are big.
While we were there, my sister-in-law and I made a birthday cake for my niece and her dad, who happen to share the same birthday.
Here’s the birthday girl in red.
And here’s the birthday cake.
I highly recommend a trip to Meers if Oklahoma is on your list of travel destinations. The area is actually very beautiful — mountains for hiking, lakes for swimming and lots of wildlife to see. Make sure to get to Meers early because there’s always a line. Also bring cash because they don’t take credit and they only allow one ticket per table.
