This weekend we celebrated Lilah’s second birthday.
I made her some special cheesy bacon cookies.
Oh wait, that’s not her…
There she is — our Newfie, Lilah Bear.
And here are the treats I made her.
I’m not normally one to spoil my dog, but after giving her a bath in the backyard with freezing cold water (it was 70 degrees out, so we didn’t think about the water being cold), I figured she deserved a special treat.
Here’s the recipe, which I found on allrecipes.
Cheesy Bacon Treats
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup margarine
- 1 cup boiling water
- 3/4 cup cornmeal
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 bouillon cube (I used a bacon flavored one)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 cups wheat flour
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and grease baking sheets. In a large bowl, combine oats, margarine and boiling water. If you’re not using quick-cooking oats, let the mixture stand for about 10 minutes. To the oat mixture, add all of the remaining ingredients. Add the flour, one cup at a time, until the dough is no longer sticky. Roll out the dough till it’s about 1/2 inch thick and use a cookie cutter to cut out the treats.
Bake them for 35 to 45 minutes.
I didn’t taste the treats myself, but Lilah definitely enjoyed them!
